Necro Butcher for Best Supporting Actor! That's "Hollywood" Dylan Summers to you! And mad kudos for the Springsteen song used for the movie. It's a very good, haunting track. Mickey Rourke will be the next member of SnS Inc

I hate to say it but, I had bigger hopes, it dont look as good as I thought it would be. Its like a love story and all emotional and crap. I was gonna see it at the theatre but now I dont think so. Looks like a corny emotional bullcrap movie to me now. I was hopein it would be hardcore and like just messed up things happenin on the road or just the life of a wrestler, but it just looks too babyface for me.

With the image that wrestling has because of several events that have taken place in the last few years, the deaths and all of the other issues, I don't think that kind of portrayal would do wrestling any favors, my friend. Wrestling needs a positive face wherever possible right now, and hopefully this garners it.

This movie should get Oscar nominations, this will be in the words of Gorilla Monsoon, a classic.

Has anyone else seen it yet?
Overall, I thought it was a pretty good movie. Rourke definitely earned the nominations he's gotten for this role, and it was fun to pick out the wrestlers I recognized (though I've watched it several times and can't find Larry Sweeney). I thought the ending left a little to be desired, but other than that, pretty good.

I just watched a dvd copy i got online last night. It's not all that bad, it was fun picking out the wrestlers, and just like Alex i didn't see Larry Sweeney in it. I didn't really like the ending all the much though. IMO its def. worth getting a copy online and watching it but i wouldn't go out and buy it on dvd.

*SPOILERS* - - - - - - - My review: I understand why Vince McMahon's all pissy about it after having a private screening of it. It shows the dark side of the wrestling business in the worst way... in the 80s, Randy the Ram was portrayed to have been as big as Hogan (headlining MSG with The Ayatollah) and now he's a much older man. He's taken on the role of putting over up-and-coming talent in the independent scene around the PA/NJ/NY area. Eventually, after pushing himself way too far for his age in a hardcore match with Necro, the poor guy suffers a heart attack and decides to retire.
The loss of wrestling is convincingly given to the audience by how he reacts to meeting his daughter and getting to know her again. That and he actually asks to work weekends (the holy days of ring work) at his feeble workplace of a local supermarket. Instead of moving on, everything reminds him of his wrestling life. This is shown in his walk to his first shift at the deli counter. Wrestling fans who view this will be tempted to chant "Goldberg", because the shot follows him behind his back for the entire walk, with a fake audience slowly getting louder. Also, because he's so used to entertaining on these days, he plays with his customers a bit. (How bout dem Cowboys?) This and he HATES his real name, Robin Rambinzski. "It's Randy" is heard multiple times from Rourke's mouth.
The relationship shown with Marisa Tomei's character is more for the casual movie goer. It can be seen within 2 or 3 of Randy/Chasity scenes that they are leading similar paths in life. Randy can't shake the wrestler persona and Chasity is still a stripper in her late 30s/early 40s. The main difference is actually the tragic realization at the end of the movie. She said "hell with it" and left work in the middle of a poll-dance. She had enough and went to see Randy at ROH in order to get him to move on in life with her... but he refused and died as a result. After messing up his last chance with his daughter (he went & banged a ringrat instead of meeting his daughter for an outing), he had nothing left.... except his fans.
It's a sad story but it's a bit exaggerated in its own sadness. Yes, this could happen in today's wrestling world. It may have really happened and I haven't heard. From what I know, though, it is not a common occurrence. If Randy the Ram was truly a legend, he could've worked very lightly or just did appearances, etc. to profit off his past glory. Instead, he kept working and paid for it with his life in the end. That's what happens when you don't think clearly about the situation you're in. The Ram let the loss of wrestling get to him that badly, and honestly, it's more sad than tragic.
All in all, I enjoyed the film.. maybe will buy a DVD. It was a good movie, but I do NOT expect to win any major awards. Nominations, yes, let them come. But I've seen better in this season. I'd say the best chance this film has in the Oscars is Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Director... and I'm confident it'll lose at least two of those.
8/10 is my overall score, and that's only because I'm a wrestling fan. Drop it down to 6 if I happened to have never seen wrestling at all.

I enjoyed it...especially how it portrayed wrestlings highs and lows, as a fan I totally enjoyed it. However, like King said, a non-wrestling fan might not appreciate it as much. Judge for your self... www.watch-movies.net/movies/the_wrestler
